Check out the flyer below for more information.

Education Abroad in Fukushima

This is a great opportunity for all of my students to get involved in education abroad.  You’ll get to experience first hand what it is like to help rebuild a damaged area.  For $1000, students can travel to Japan and help the country rebuild.  The cost of airfare alone is more than $1000, this special trip is a fantastic deal for students looking to travel abroad and simultaneously help a recovering community.

International Affairs and Global Studies are proud to announce in collaboration with Fukushima University, an in-service 10-Day “Disaster Recovery” Education Abroad Program in Fukushima. Partially funded by the Mombosho (Japanese Ministry of Education), Fukushima University, and MTSU International Affairs, 10 select MTSU students will participate in this pioneering program to witness firsthand the impact of a national disaster and the monumental effort to restore and to rebuild.

Led by Dr. Doug Heffington, Director of Global Studies, and Dr. David Schmidt, Vice Provost for International Affairs, this program will infuse the experiential exposure to culture & language and the rewarding components of service-learning.

A tentative schedule is: June 5th-15th, 2012

At no time while engaged in program-related activities will students be in areas where the U.S. government recommends its citizens avoid travel. Students or parents concerned with the current state of radiation in the area should contact Dr. Schmidt directly at dschmidt@mtsu.edu.

Cost of the program: $1000. This fee covers all instruction, lodging and international airfare from Nashville to Japan. While some meals will be provided, students should plan on covering their own meals and incidentals.

Eligibility: Participants must be currently enrolled MTSU fulltime students. Participants must attend all orientation sessions.
